Albion College, , has made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone conference competition and championships for football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and volleyball for the upcoming 2020 fall season.

365体育官方网站While the decision to postpone fall competitions and championships is difficult, the safety of our student-athletes is our primary concern during these times. Albion College is committed to providing its fall sport student-athletes with a quality athletic experience during the upcoming semester. These activities include practice, intrasquad competition, skill development, strength and conditioning, leadership and professional development opportunities.

365体育官方网站The MIAA and its nine member schools are working to develop a plan to schedule conference competition and championships for these sports in the spring semester.

Is the season canceled?

No. Albion College has made the decision to postpone competitions and championships that lie in the fall season. The NCAA, MIAA and Albion College will work together to safely resume intercollegiate play in the spring semester. Albion College will provide practice and intrasquad competition opportunities in the fall. Additionally, we will look to partner with MIAA schools to see what opportunities for virtual athletic competition are possible in the fall.

What sports does this impact?

Fall sports impacted include cross country, football, golf, soccer and volleyball. (Tennis will be allowed to practice, but not to compete in the fall.) At this time, winter sport competitions are still on as scheduled. Those sports include basketball, indoor track and field, swimming and diving, and equestrian.

What will it be like to participate on a team this fall?

365体育官方网站While the traditional intercollegiate competition we are all accustomed to will be suspended, teams will still have the opportunity to practice and work out. All teams will follow the ​NCAA Resocialization Guidelines​ under the direction of the Albion College athletic training staff, team physicians and Calhoun County Health Department.

Will fall student-athletes be able to compete in the spring?

365体育官方网站The NCAA recently made a decision to permit 2020 fall sports to play in the spring of 2021. The MIAA, along with Albion College, is considering various models that would provide competition in the spring for fall sport student-athletes.

When will student-athletes arrive on campus now?

As we plan to reopen our campus, we will continue to follow guidelines issued by the state of Michigan and Calhoun County. Student-athletes will not have an early move-in schedule. They will move in during the time they are assigned by Residential Life.

When will a decision be made regarding winter sport competitions?

365体育官方网站The decision regarding winter competitions will be made by the MIAA Presidents Council in the coming weeks. Additionally, Albion College will make a decision regarding equestrian competition in the same timeframe.

How can I participate in training activities with my team?

In order to participate in training activities with your team(s), you will need to follow the Albion College protocol in returning to campus. This will include wearing masks, socially distancing and practicing good personal hygiene. Once on campus, athletes will go through Phase 1 of the NCAA Resocialization Guidelines​, which includes specific activities you are permitted to engage in.

Will winter and spring sports teams be able to practice in the fall?

Yes. Albion College will follow NCAA legislation to determine when these practices can begin and how often they can occur.

If a team begins practice in the fall of 2020 and then needs to stop due to the virus, will the student-athlete lose a season of participation?

No. A season of eligibility is not used until a team has used more than 50% of its allowable competitions.

If a team begins competition in 2021 and then needs to stop due to the virus, will the student-athlete lose a season of participation?

If a team does not exceed half of its allowable contest dates, no. In early July, the NCAA made this exception for the 2020-21 academic year only.

Do I need to get all of my pre-participation requirements done (i.e. physical, concussion test, Sportsware account, Front Rush, etc.) in order to participate in practice?

365体育官方网站Yes, the athletic training staff will utilize all of these things to help move forward with the NCAA Resocialization Guidelines​ while partnering with the Calhoun County Health Department and our team physician at Henry Ford Health Systems to create a safe environment for practice in the fall. Also, once the NCAA publishes its 2020-21 compliance forms, you will be emailed all NCAA and Albion College compliance forms that need to be completed.

Do I need to be a full-time student to be able to practice with my team this semester?

Yes, you will need to meet Albion College's full-time student requirements during the fall semester in order to be able to participate in practice. Additionally, Albion College academic eligibility requirements will still be in place.
